Initiative Status - It's Official!
As planned, we delivered our petition to Town Hall on Monday 2nd December with a 50% safety factor in terms of number of signatures gathered - a total of around 1240 versus a requirement of 822.For pictures of the event see http://www.lahopenspace.com/HandingOver.html and for the story in the Town Crier see http://www.losaltosonline.com/articles/2002/12/05/news/news06.txt
On Friday, December 6th, we received official word from our City Clerk that the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters issued a Certificate of Sufficiency - in other words, we obtained enough valid signatures, and our initiative has passed its next step on its way to the ultimate goal.
The Next Step:
Now that the County Elections Division has verified our signatures as sufficient, the City Clerk must certify the Initiative to the City Council at its next regularly scheduled meeting, December 19th. The Council will ultimately have only two choices: adopt the Citizens' Initiative or schedule a Special Election. It is possible that the Town Council could adopt our initiative at that meeting.
Financial Status:
Since the appeal in our last Bulletin #17 for additional funds to pay our legal expenses, we have received more than half the amount needed to pay off the final balance.This really is a most heartwarming response. A huge "Thank You" to those who went for their wallets yet one more time, so generously and so quickly.
We're still in the hole for approximately $3,000. If you'd like make a donation, here is the information once again on how to help.

Contributions above $250 can be tax-deductible if you wish. The Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society can accept donations on our behalf which are then tax-deductible. Instead of making your check out to LAH Open Space, for these larger donations ($250 or more) just make your check out to Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society. In either case, then mail the check to:
