E-Mail Bulletin #7 - 10 September 2002
Murietta Ridge Added to LAH Open Space Initiative:A 13.9 acre parcel off of Moody Road - Murietta Ridge - has been added to the open space initiative. This parcel was formerly part of the Adobe Creek Lodge property and obtained by the Town of Los Altos Hills in the late 70's. The steep terrain combined with heavy vegetation make this inhospitable to humans, but it is a valuable wildlife habitat area. This parcel provides a wildlife corridor which joins Hidden Villa, Rhus Ridge, and Mid-Peninsula Regional Open Space. Currently designated on the land use map as "private recreation," this parcel will be redesignated as OSP (open space preserve). With the addition of Murietta Ridge, the open space initiative will protect just over 157 acres of town-owned property.

Initiative Status:Now in its second draft, things are moving forward quickly with our initiative. The latest parcel addition has not slowed our momentum. Our goal is still the end of September for the "final" version. The "Purpose" of the initiative is generally crafted by the initiative sponsors. We've been fortunate to have some excellent critiques from community members. In particular, Elaine Nelson has played a key role in formulating this important section of the initiative. Click on http://www.lahopenspace.com/Purpose.html to read the "Initiative Purpose."
Fund Raising:We are happy to report that a number of staunch supporters have enabled us to reach our first milestone - enough money to pay our attorneys. Our heartfelt thanks to all who contributed so generously! We're not there yet though! The lion's share of the financial obligation has been dealt with, but what remains now is to raise the funds to cover a town-wide mailing of the initiative as soon as we have the final draft, and the miscellaneous few expenses that will no doubt come with gathering the requisite signatures and formally submitting the initiative to the voters. (In other words, contributions are still gratefully received!)
Endorsements:Please let us know if you would like to add your name to our list of endorsers. Just e-mail couperus@mindspring.com We'll soon have the list of groups and individuals endorsing the initiative posted on the website.
E-mail distribution list:If you have friends or neighbors in Los Altos Hills who would like to be placed on this e-mail information list, please have them contact either Nancy Couperus at couperus@mindspring.com or Val Metcalfe at metcalfes@worldnet.att.net
