LAH Open Space Initiative Status:
The "first draft" of the LAH Open Space Initiative is now in our hands. A subgroup of the LAH Open Space Committee met together to go over each section of the initiative and some changes in wording and reordering of paragraphs will be recommended to our attorney.The detailed examination of the initiative is critical to avoid any flaws which could jeopardize the successful passage of the initiative. The first draft is 14 pages. If you are interested in helping with the initiative review process, please contact me at couperus@mindspring.com . Our goal is to have the final initiative ready to go within the next few weeks.
Endorsements - Individuals & Groups:
We are planning to put a list of endorsers (individuals and groups) on the LAH Open Space Website: www.lahopenspace.comPlease e-mail couperus@mindspring.com to place your name, your neighborhood association or other group as a supporter and as an endorser of our Open Space Initiative.
We have already received wonderful support from the Audubon Society of Santa Clara Valley, Bay Area Barns & Trails, and the Committee for Green Foothills. The advice we have received from all three of these organizations has been invaluable.
Council candidates Dean Warshawsky and Breene Kerr have both
contributed to our open space efforts and are continuing to actively
support passage of the initiative through their individual campaigns.
If you would like to learn more about these two candidates, lend
your endorsement, etc., you can reach them at the following e-mail

These neighborhood gatherings will be a great way to explain the
initiative to our residents and answer questions they might have. The
LAH Open Space Committee will provide speakers and materials
for the coffees.
If you are interested in attending a coffee, you might want to contact
Doris to find out where the nearest one to you is being held.
In order to do a town-wide mailing, we are probably looking for an
additional $2,500. The mailing would include a letter explaining the
need for the initiative, the initiative itself and instructions on how to
sign it, and a return envelope.
If you haven't yet contributed, please consider writing a check for
whatever amount you can afford. Your donation demonstrates your
support for our open space issue, as well as helping us reach our
goal.
Contributions above $250 can be tax-deductible if you wish. The
Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society can accept donations on our
behalf which are then tax-deductible. Instead of making your check
out to LAH Open Space, for these larger donations just make your
check out to Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society.

As we've stated before, if you are unable to contribute at this time,
don't worry, there will be other ways to help our effort!
Open Space Coffees:
We are setting up a series of neighborhood open space coffees in
September, October, and November. If you have an interest in
providing an informational meeting on the open space initiative, please
advise our "coffee coordinator" Doris Welsh at kharis6@cs.com.
The more coffees we can offer, the more support for the initiative we
will have.
Fundraising
We have reached just over $20,000 in monies donated. We believe
that this amount will cover our attorney costs; however, we would like
to have a reserve should there be any additional costs that haven't been
anticipated.
